  8. We suppose you have a typical iPer Server Extensions installation on a typical MS Internet Server installation.
  9. If your environment is different, you may have to change some path.

  13. A) ANSWERS TO COMMON INSTALLATION PROBLEMS
  14. =======================================================================
  15.   Most of problems reported are due to a bad configuration of Microsoft Internet Server.  To avoid problems, be sure to follow installation Wizard and see following instructions to check MSIS configuration.

  17.   a)To see iPer at work (after iPer Server Extensions setup), you must run Netscape Navigator or Ms Internet Explorer, then you must call:
  18.       http://www.myserver.com/iperusers/default.user/index.htm
  19.  
  20. Note you must replace  www.myserver.com  with your server name.
  21.  
  22.   b)during setup you must write down all parameters suggested by the Wizard. You will need those parameters to install iPer Editor on client PCs.

  24.   c)WWW server must be set up to allow reading and writing in following directory:
  25.       c:\inetpub\scripts\cgi-iper\
  26. Server must also allow reading in:
  27.       c:\inetpub\wwwroot\iperusers\
  28. and in all nested directory.
  29.     Then you must create the alias  /iperusers/  that must point to  c:\inetpub\wwwroot\iperusers\   and must be allowed for reading.
  30. Note that in "Personal Web Server" paths may be different, for example "c:\webshare\...".

  32.   d)check with iPer Users Manager the alias of current user.
  33. For example, if your user directory is:
  34.       c:\inetpub\wwwroot\iperusers\gianni\
  35. the alias must be:
  36.       /iperusers/gianni/
  37.  
  38.   e)if something seems wrong, be sure to select "Apply current settings" in iPer Users Manager before you try new settings for any user.

  41. B) HOW TO BUILD YOUR SERVER HOME PAGE WITH IPER
  42. =======================================================================
  43. You must configure MSIS so that the directory
  44.       c:\inetpub\scripts\cgi-iper\
  45. becomes the home directory.
  46. You must also set:
  47.       iper.exe??home
  48. or:
  49.       home.htm
  50. as default document.

  52. Note that it may be useful to set up a new alias for the old home directory (typically \wwwroot).
  53. To change the home page layout you must modify the main hypertext of user "home" (to do this you have to install iPer Editor, and to set "home" as user. Then you must publish "home.aeh": this hypertext will replace the default home page).

  55. Note that in order to obtain this you must first create with "MSIS manager"  the alias /iperusers/ , than must point to  c:\inetpub\wwwroot\iperusers\   and must be allowed to reading.

  59. C)HOW TO REACH ANY HOME PAGE WITH A SIMPLE PATH

  61. With default configuration, the home page of user "mario" can be reached with:
  62.       http://www.yourserver.it/scripts/cgi-iper/iper.exe??mario
  63. or:
  64.       http://www.yourserver.it/iperusers/mario/home.htm
  65. If your server is set up as in B), you can also use:
  66.       http://www.yourserver.it/iper.exe??mario
  67. Note that in this case you must set up with iPer Users Manager the home-hypertext related to each user.
